Creation and Execution of Manual Test Run



In this article, we will learn how to execute manual test cases using manual test run. Let's understand how to create a manual test run and then use it to execute the manual test cases.

1. Navigate to QLM and select Test Run from the given options.


2. Click Create Test Run, and select Create Manual Run. 

    



3. A Create Manual Run window appears on the right panel. Provide a run name, select the milestone for which you want to link this manual run, and choose if you want to execute test cases or a suite of manual test cases.




4. You can also use the Create New & Link icon to create a new manual test case and link it to this test run.




5. You can also apply filters to the list of test cases shown on the Create Manual Run page by clicking the filter icon.



It provides you with the option to add filters such as mode of test case - Manual or Automated, Assignee, Reporter, Priority, Release, Milestone and click on Apply button  as shown in the image  below.



6. Once done, click the Create Run button at the bottom.




7. Your manual run is ready displaying a pop-up message. Click the Run button to start the manual test.




               
10. Opkey browser extension comes pre-loaded with the manual test runner wizard that helps execute your manual test cases. To activate and use the manual test runner, click the run icon on the right of the test steps. A window opens with a short demo of how to use the manual execution wizard to start the manual test run.


 
11. Click the Opkey Browser Extension at the top of the browser window to open the Manual execution wizard. 


If you do not have the Opkey Browser extension installed already, click the Add Extension button and follow the instructions. When it is installed it will reflect in the extensions tab.




12. In the manual execution wizard, you can add comments, view details, and attach videos or images against each test step. This helps with comprehensive documentation of step execution for reviewers' reference.




13. Before finishing the execution of the test run, if you want to log a ticket concerning the test case for any issue or failed test step,  you can click on the + icon and click Create Ticket. You can also create a user story/requirement or capture a video of execution by clicking Create User Story or Capture Video.


 


14. You can update each of the test case step status by clicking the button with the exclamation icon as show in the image below. The available options to update the status are: Pass, Incomplete, NotExecuted, SkippedOver, and Fail.


For example - Suppose for the first step, you try to login to a given application.


And once you are successfully logged in, you'll mark the test step as pass.

 


15. After updating the status of all the steps, click the Finish button at the top to complete the execution.


16. Click Yes on the confirmation window pop-up.


17. Finally, you can see the status of the execution on the test run page. The status of the test case can also be changed by clicking on the dropdown corresponding to the step as well as test case.
