Analyzing an ERP instance with Test Discovery

Opkey's Test Discovery enables us to add an ERP Instance and analyze its processes to identify the test coverage gaps. After analysis, it shows a detailed report showing scenarios you are testing, your current test coverage, and suggested scenarios to achieve optimum test coverage. 

Let us have a look at the process of analyzing an ERP instance and explore its various elements.

1.  Click the “+” icon at the top of the left panel of your ERP page on Test Discovery and click Analyze Instance.

2. On the Analyze Instance pop-up window, you can select your ERP application, choose your ERP environment for analysis, and click the Next button.

3. On the next window enter the following details.

Process- Select the process to analyze.

Start Date - Select the start date to retrieve data.

End Date - Select the end date to retrieve data.

Time Zone - Select your time zone.

Download Client Utility - If your ERP application is set up On-Premise, download and connect the Client Utility on a machine from where the ERP application is accessible.

Once all the details are filled in, click the Analyze Instance button. Here we are analyzing OracleFusion's Order to Cash workflow.

4. The instance analysis process begins, you can click the Run in background button at the top to go back to the main screen and let this process run in the background.

5. Once this process is completed you’ll be able to view the page as shown in the image below. On this page, you can click on the Open Instance button to view the analysis.

Understanding Elements of Analyzed Instance

Once you open an analyzed instance, you can view all the mined test scenarios (the test scenarios you are already testing) in the left pane. Its graphical view can be seen in the middle section of the page. On the right, you can see the test coverage assessment. 

For example, in the scenario shown in the image below, we are only testing 4% of the possible test cases.
 

In the dropdown on the left panel, you can see options such as Automated, Custom, Suggested, and Mined. We have already read about the mined option. Let's go through the remaining options.

The Automated option shows test cases you have already automated.

The Custom option shows the custom scenarios you have created to create custom test cases for your process.

The Suggested option shows the number of test cases not covered in your current testing process but should be tested to achieve optimum test coverage.

When the test cases are analyzed you can view their details in the right pane under different tabs. 

Let us go through them one by one. 

1. Under the All tab, the Test Execution section provides details about the executed test cases on the specified date.

Scroll down, you’ll be able to view the logged Tickets respective to a selected test case. You can also view the details of the selected testing scenario below. It shows details of the creator, dates of creation and updation, last run, and last updater. 

Clicking on the arrow on the right of the Tickets section will redirect you to the Tickets page where you can view different tickets as per their categories. The available categories of tickets are:

• Open 

• In-Progress

• Done

• Reopened

• Closed

2. The next tab is Data. Here, you’ll be able to view the data of a selected test case. You can further expand the test cases and view the steps. 

3. The Activities tab displays the details of activities related to a selected test case or scenario.

4. The Automation tab allows you to automate a test case by clicking the Automate button. 

5. If you select a scenario, you can also see the Configs tab showing key configurations associated with a scenario.

6. In the Comments sections, you can add or view comments related to the selected test case.
